The Gregory-Portland ISD All Purpose Indoor Practice Facility is scheduled to break ground November, 2024 and will be the new home for Wildcat Football, Baseball, Band, Softball, Soccer, Track & Field, and Tennis!
The two-story facility features a new indoor 120-yard synthetic turf field which will allow for indoor practices. Totaling over 153,000 SF, the design consists of a spacious weight room for all field sports; dedicated band storage; training rooms; mutli-purpose & meeting rooms; laundry facilities; coach offices, bullpens, & locker rooms; dedicated JV & Varsity locker rooms and storage for each program (softball, baseball, track & field, football, soccer, band & tennis); visitors locker room, and an observation deck looking out to the field.
The design contains catwalks at both end zones for football coaches to obtain elevated views of football scrimmages and provide band directors & drum majors the opportunity to view their marching band practice from a different view. Additionally, two batting cages will be located opposite sides of the facility that extend from the roof deck to provide the G-P baseball team with indoor batting practice.
Overhead doors will line two long sides of the field that can be opened when necessary to aid mechanical fans with cross ventilation.
The All Purpose Practice Facility was funded as part of the 2020 bond and will be constructed near Ray Akins Wildcat Stadium.
